President Akufo-Addo’s directives to combat galamsey are already showing positive effects.
In the Manso area of the Ashanti Region, illegal miners have started dismantling their operations, removing excavators from their sites.
One miner mentioned they plan to take away more than 20 machines, acknowledging the negative impact on their activities.
This quick response follows the President’s address on the galamsey issue, in which he ordered increased military presence at all affected sites to address the problem.
The initiative aims to safeguard Ghana’s ecological integrity, especially its freshwater bodies, which have been heavily impacted by illegal small-scale gold mining.
Ghana has faced challenges with galamsey for many years, with various administrations implementing different strategies to tackle it.
Addressing this issue requires a collective effort, extending beyond government intervention and involving all sectors of society.
