Akufo Addo's Statue Reportedly Get 24-Hour Police Surveillance Amid Public Backlash

Following threats to dismantle a newly unveiled statue of President Nana Akufo-Addo, the Western Regional Minister has reportedly requested 24-hour police surveillance around the monument.

Erected outside the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi, the statue honors the president’s contributions to the region, according to Regional Minister Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah.

However, public reaction has been polarized, with some Ghanaians criticizing the statue as “self-glorification,” particularly given its placement outside a hospital.

The decision to deploy police officers has added fuel to the debate, with critics arguing the resources could be better allocated elsewhere.

Social media is abuzz with posts mocking the statue and questioning its necessity. Nonetheless, supporters view the statue as a fitting tribute to the president’s regional development initiatives.

The 24-hour police guard remains in place as officials assess the public response.
