An excavator operator at an illegal mining site has exposed a shocking incident of alleged police corruption.
In a video, he shows a group of armed policemen arriving at the site in a pickup vehicle, claiming they came for “chop money” – a colloquial term for bribe.
According to the operator, this was not an isolated incident. Another group of policemen had visited the site just a day earlier, demanding GHS 20,000.

The video appears to reveal a disturbing pattern of corruption, where law enforcement officials may be complicit in illegal mining activities in exchange for financial gains.
This raises concerns about the effectiveness of efforts to combat illegal mining and the integrity of some members of the police force.
