As Their Pastor Accuses Their Daughter Of Being A Witch, Her Father And Mother Starve Her To The Point Of Death

In Adazi-Ani village, Anaocha Local Government Area, Anambra State, a couple was detained for allegedly starving their 5-year-old daughter out of fear of witchcraft.

The victim’s parents allegedly stated that a pastor called the youngster a witch, according to a statement released on Thursday, September 7, 2023 by the State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Hon. Ify Obinabo.

Hon. Obinabo warned the perpetrators at her office in Awka that she wouldn’t let them off the hook and stated that protecting the rights of all children in the state, whether they are state residents or not, is her main responsibility.

Hon. Obinabo recognized Mr. Ikenna Anoliefo’s efforts in saving the youngster and, where required, raising the alarm, encouraging others to follow in his footsteps.

The suspects, Mr. Michael Wosu, 47, of Rivers State and Mrs. Blessing Michael, 23, of Akwa Ibom, both of whom reside in Adazi-Ani, claimed that they were not to blame for the girl’s starvation because they were simply following their pastor’s prophecy that she is a “witch” and does not “deserve to live,” respectively.

Blessing went on to say that because the little girl kept pooping and peeing on her body, she also made the young girl sleep on a board.

She said that her husband’s failure was “responsible” for the 5-year-old girl.

Michael Wosu, meanwhile, denied knowing about the abuse the youngster had endured.

The accused are still being held by police as of the time this report was submitted, and the survivor is receiving care at an unidentified hospital in Awka.
