In a match in which chances were hard to come by, Olivier Giroud’s 2nd half overhead kick gave Chelsea the lead away from home in the first leg of the two-legged tie.
Thomas Lemar and Timo Werner had half chances to score but couldn’t take them in what was a boring first 45 minutes before Hermoso’s failed attempt to clear the ball from his box allowed Giroud to produce a spectacular to add to his impressive tally this season in the UEFA Champions league.
The two sides face each other again in 3 weeks to decide which team goes through to the quarters.
