Barbados has welcomed 155 nurses from Ghana to bolster its healthcare workforce, who arrived at Grantley Adams International Airport on November 3, 2024.
Accompanied by Ghana’s Deputy Health Minister, Adelaide Ntim, the nurses were greeted by Barbados’ Health Minister, Senator Dr. Jerome Walcott, and other dignitaries.
This group represents the third cohort in a strategic healthcare partnership established between Barbados and Ghana in 2020.
Initially, 95 nurses arrived during the COVID-19 pandemic, followed by an additional 120 in 2022, some of whom have since made Barbados their home.
These Ghanaian nurses bring specialized skills in areas like cardiology, emergency care, midwifery, and geriatrics, aiming to enhance patient care across Barbados.
Minister Walcott emphasized that their expertise would greatly contribute to the healthcare system’s resilience and efficiency.
This collaborative effort underscores a shared commitment to addressing healthcare challenges and strengthening international ties.
