For non-lifeline residential customers, the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has announced an upcoming rise in water, electricity, and natural gas rates.

With this modification, water and electricity rates will both increase by 1.18% and 4.22%, respectively, starting on Friday, September 1, 2023.

It’s vital to note that this change will not apply to industrial clients or non-residential companies like barbershops, chop houses, tailoring and dressmaking shops, cold storage facilities, and other small to medium-sized enterprises, as well as hair salons, salons, barber shops, and chop bars.

The main goal of the tariff adjustment, according to a news release from PURC, is to maintain the real value of the cost of delivering utility services.

The Commission approved no increase or adjustment (0%) in end-user energy pricing for lifeline consumers, industrial customers, and non-residential users effective September 1, 2023, according to the press statement. But the Commission decided to raise the average and end-user power rate for non-lifeline residential consumers by 4.22% overall.

Lifeline subscribers won’t see a rise in water prices or any other adjustment (0%) in pricing. All other water user categories, meanwhile, will have their rates increase by 1.18%, as recommended by the Commission.

The announcement of a tariff adjustment is anticipated to have an effect on homes and locals who depend on these vital utilities.

In order to prepare for the upcoming increases in their power bills, many people will be closely tracking their consumption and creating budgets.
