This morning, the Ghana Police Service issued a statement calling for the detention of three police officials for their role in the leaked tape’s plot to oust the IGP.
The three, consisting of COP Mensah, Superintendent Eric Gyebi, and Superintendent George Lysander Asare, were overheard on the recording discussing a plan to have Dr. Dampare, the current Inspector General of Police, fired.
The trio claimed that the IGP was ruining the Police Service and that they wanted him replaced with COP Mensah since he is an NPP member in an audio conversation with NPP bigwig Cheif Bugri Naabu.
A committee has been established to look into the subject mentioned in the leaked recording after the topic was reported to Parliament and the Speaker of Parliament gave the go-ahead.
The three police officers have already been before the committee and given their accounts of the incident, with Superintendent George Lysander Asare and COP George Alex Mensah offering to provide more details during an in-camera meeting with the committee.
