The Catholic Church of the Accra Archdiocese, in collaboration with the Conference of Major Superiors of Religious in Ghana, is set to lead a massive prayer protest against galamsey on October 11, 2024.
This initiative aims to unite Ghanaians from all walks of life in both prayer and action to end the devastating effects of illegal mining in the country.
Galamsey has been a long-standing issue in Ghana, causing widespread environmental degradation, water pollution, and food insecurity.
The Catholic Church’s prayer protest seeks to raise awareness about the urgent need for change and to call on the government to take decisive action against galamsey operators.
During the protest, participants will pray fervently, believing that God can rescue Ghana from its current predicament.
The Church emphasizes the importance of human effort in the battle against environmental destruction caused by galamsey, while also recognizing the power of prayer.
The event is expected to draw support from over 50 organizations that have already voiced concerns over galamsey.
This collective action demonstrates the growing concern among Ghanaians about the devastating impact of illegal mining on the country’s natural resources.
