Catholic Church Suspends Roman Father For Secretly Marrying

The Catholic Diocese of Warri in Nigeria has suspended Rev. Fr. Daniel Okanatotor Oghenerukevwe from priestly duties after discovering his secret marriage in the US.

The revelation sent shockwaves through the clergy and faithful, as the Catholic Church mandates celibacy as a fundamental vow for priests.

According to sources within the Diocese, Fr. Okanatotor’s clandestine union was a direct violation of canonical law.

The Diocese expressed disappointment over the incident, emphasizing the importance of accountability and adherence to Church teachings.

In a formal statement, the Diocese of Warri stated, “This unfortunate situation undermines the sacred trust placed in our clergy and the commitment they vow to uphold.

As a result, Rev. Fr. Daniel Okanatotor Oghenerukevwe is hereby suspended from all priestly functions, effective immediately.”

The suspension is in line with the Catholic Church’s laws, which consider marriage a serious offense for priests. The Church views celibacy as a vital aspect of a priest’s commitment to their faith and their role within the Church.

The Diocese has assured parishioners that it remains committed to transparency and integrity. An internal investigation has been launched to uncover the full details surrounding the matter, including how the marriage was conducted and whether there were any breaches of ecclesiastical protocol before the discovery.
