The Ashanti Region is mourning the loss of its revered Chief Imam, Alhaji Abdul Mumin Haroun, who passed away on Tuesday night at the age of 74.
According to family sources, Sheikh Haroun died at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi after a short illness.
Sheikh Haroun was a highly respected figure in the region, known for his tireless efforts to promote peace and development in Muslim communities.
He served as the Ashanti Regional Chief Imam for over a decade, rising to the role in 2011 after serving as deputy to the late Sheikh Imran Musah.
During his tenure, Sheikh Haroun played a crucial role in resolving conflicts and promoting unity in the region. He was also instrumental in spearheading the refurbishment of the Kumasi Central Mosque and other transformational activities in the Ashanti region.
Sheikh Haroun’s passing has sent shockwaves throughout the region, with many paying tribute to his remarkable life and legacy. He is survived by two wives and six children.
The late Chief Imam will be buried at the Tafo Cemetery today, following “Janaza” prayers at the Kumasi Central Mosque. His funeral is expected to be attended by dignitaries and well-wishers from across the region.
