A Magistrate Court in Ilesa, Osun State, Nigeria, has ruled in favor of Olapitan Sola, ordering his girlfriend, Rhoda Adu, to pay N150,000 (equivalent to GHS 1,500) for breaching their agreement and causing emotional distress.
The issue began when Sola transferred N3,000 (GHS 30) to Adu as transport fare, expecting her to visit him. However, Adu failed to show up and switched off her phone, leaving Sola feeling deceived and defrauded.
During the hearing, Sola presented evidence, including mobile money transfer records and WhatsApp conversations, to prove his claims. The court found Adu guilty of breaching their agreement and emotionally manipulating Sola.

Consequently, Adu was ordered to refund the N3,000, pay N100,000 as a penalty for breaching the agreement, and an additional N50,000 as damages for emotional distress. The court emphasized that the ruling was intended to deter others from similar behavior.
This ruling has sparked a heated debate about the consequences of standing up a partner and the importance of honesty and communication in relationships.
