Declaring Your Support For The NDC Is A Haram If You Are A Muslim — NAPO

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, running mate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming election, sparked controversy during a visit to Yaa Naa Bukali Mahama II, the Overlord of Dagbon, in Yendi yesterday.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as “NAPO,” made strong statements regarding Muslim support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In his remarks, NAPO declared that for Muslims to vote for the NDC is “haram,” or forbidden under Islamic law. He went further to state that if an Imam prays for former President John Dramani Mahama to return to power, it would also be considered “haram.”

The statement has ignited intense debate, with political and religious figures weighing in on whether NAPO’s comments may infringe on the rights of individuals to support political parties of their choice.

Leaders from across the political spectrum have called for an atmosphere of tolerance and respect for religious diversity in Ghana’s political discourse, especially as the election approaches.
