Prominent Ghanaian media figure Gh Mouthpiece has raised concerns about Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s evolving public persona, which has seen a shift from “economic wizard” to “Ghana Card man” to “digital man” over successive election cycles.
Reflecting on Bawumia’s journey, Gh Mouthpiece recalled his 2016 campaign image, where he presented himself as an economic savior who would “arrest the dollar” and stabilize the Ghanaian cedi. Yet, according to Gh Mouthpiece, the cedi has since experienced unprecedented depreciation against the dollar.
In 2022, after what many perceived as a failure in economic management, Bawumia took on a new identity as the “Ghana Card man,” becoming the face of the national identification project—a project initiated by Alan Kyerematen but largely promoted by Bawumia.

Now, as the 2024 elections approach, he has again repositioned himself, this time as a champion of digitalization.
Gh Mouthpiece questions the consistency of Bawumia’s commitments, arguing that his repeated shifts in focus cast doubt on his ability to deliver on his promises. She urged Ghanaians to consider Bawumia’s track record critically as they head to the polls on December 7, calling for a choice that reflects the interests of the nation over political rebranding.
