President John Dramani Mahama has reassigned Edward Bawa to serve as the Group CEO of GOIL, Ghana’s largest indigenous oil marketing company, after a short stint as CEO of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).
His move comes just weeks after he replaced Joseph Dadzie at GNPC on January 16, 2025, raising speculation about the rationale behind the sudden change.
While no official reason has been given, industry analysts suggest it could be part of a broader restructuring strategy within Ghana’s energy sector.

The reassignment places Bawa at the helm of GOIL, a key player in Ghana’s petroleum distribution network, where his leadership will be crucial in navigating industry challenges.
Additionally, Wonder Victor Kutor has been nominated as a board member of GOIL, signaling further shifts in the company’s governance structure.
The changes have sparked discussions about the Mahama administration’s approach to energy sector leadership and its long-term vision for state-owned petroleum enterprises.
Observers will be keen to see how Bawa’s expertise shapes GOIL’s operations in the coming months.
