With Ghana’s General Election 2024 drawing near, former President John Dramani Mahama has issued sharp criticism toward President Nana Akufo-Addo, accusing him of spreading falsehoods about the country’s past energy crisis, popularly known as ‘Dumsor.’
Mahama, speaking at a campaign rally, stated, “Liars have no place in Heaven. At your age, you should be focusing on preparing your soul for Heaven, so stop lying.”
This remark comes after Akufo-Addo reportedly suggested that the current government had completely resolved the persistent power outages inherited from Mahama’s administration.
Mahama, however, rebuffed these claims, asserting that his leadership laid the groundwork for the stabilization of Ghana’s energy sector before Akufo-Addo assumed office.
The comments have added fuel to an already heated election season, with supporters from both sides exchanging jabs on social media.
Mahama’s remarks were seen by some as a strong moral rebuke, while others interpreted them as election rhetoric.
As tensions rise, the energy debate remains central to the political discourse, reflecting broader concerns about governance and accountability.
