Forestry Commission Officers Charge GHS600 Weekly To Allow Us To Do Galamsey — Galamseyer

A shocking revelation has emerged from an exclusive TV3 interview with Carlos, a galamseyer whose identity remains concealed for security reasons.

He boldly claimed that Forestry Commission personnel receive weekly bribes of GHc 600 to turn a blind eye to illegal mining activities.

Carlos, who works in Enchi, specifically mentioned the destruction of rivers Yooyo, Ankra, and Nsuhwama, highlighting the devastating environmental impact of galamsey. He implicated chiefs, politicians, and influential individuals in the galamsey operations.

“The chiefs, politicians and sometimes prominent people in our society are part of the galamsey we are doing,” Carlos revealed. “I work personally at Enchi in rivers called Yooyo, Ankra and Nsuhwama. The Yooyo is in the forest and the remaining two stream straight to the Yooyo and we’ve destroyed all these three rivers.”

Carlos further exposed the corrupt practices within the Forestry Commission, stating, “Sometimes forestry commission officers come to our site and take bribes.

This is not an allegation, this is the fact I’m telling you. Sometimes they give us their numbers and every week we send them money. We send GHc 600 every week to them.”

“I’m just a layman worker. We are doing all the work. We don’t use excavators, we use only shovel and pick axe. This is called Man Power, but we have those sponsors who are using excavator, one leg, Changfan,” Carlos added.
