Ghana Armed Forces Releases Statement, Clarify Their ‘Scary’ Role In This Year’s Election

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has issued a statement clarifying its role in the upcoming Presidential and Parliamentary elections, scheduled to take place on December 7.

In the statement, released on December 1, GAF emphasized that no military personnel will be stationed at polling stations on election day.

According to GAF, the military will only be deployed upon a formal request from the Ghana Police Service to handle specific situations requiring additional security reinforcements.

This collaborative approach, GAF noted, underscores a commitment to maintaining law and order while ensuring that the electoral process is free from undue interference.

GAF reiterated that its presence will be limited to standby support, with the primary responsibility for election security remaining with the Ghana Police Service (GPS).

The military will only be deployed upon request by the GPS to handle specific situations requiring additional security reinforcements.

GAF urged the public to remain vigilant to prevent the impersonation or unauthorized appearances of individuals claiming to be military personnel.

The public has been encouraged to report any suspicious individuals or groups to the nearest Police Station or call the GPS toll-free numbers: 18555 or 0800 311 311.

In its statement, GAF reiterated its dedication to safeguarding the stability and sovereignty of Ghana, particularly during this critical democratic exercise.

GAF encouraged all Ghanaians to exercise their civic rights responsibly, cooperate with security personnel, and refrain from any acts that could disrupt the peace.
