Ghana EC Responds to Ballot Shortage in Volta Region

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has confirmed a ballot shortage in five Volta Region constituencies, just days before the December 7, 2024, elections. Affected areas include Keta, Ketu North, Ho Central, Hohoe, and Ho West.

The EC has announced plans to reprint the missing ballot papers at Acts Commercials Printing House in Accra, with representatives from political parties invited to oversee the process to ensure transparency.

This comes on the heels of recent issues involving defective ballot papers, further intensifying public scrutiny of the EC’s operations.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC), a key stakeholder in the region, has expressed concerns, accusing the EC of jeopardizing the election’s integrity and demanding an immediate investigation.

Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor, Chairman of the NDC’s 2024 Planning Committee, warned that such lapses could have serious repercussions if unresolved.

Meanwhile, the EC has urged calm, assuring the public of their commitment to delivering credible elections. As the election date nears, all eyes remain on how effectively the EC manages this challenge to restore confidence in the process.
