The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed an outbreak of Dengue Fever, a clinical form of malaria, in several districts of the Eastern Region.
According to a statement signed by Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, Director-General of GHS, nine cases have been confirmed after samples were sent to the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR).
The cases, which did not respond to antimalarial treatment, were initially managed as acute febrile illnesses. The national surveillance system detected unusual cases of clinical malaria in the region, prompting further investigation.
A team of entomologists and epidemiologists from the national level has joined the regional team to conduct a detailed investigation into the outbreak.

The GHS has directed Regional Directors of Health Service and Chief Executive Officers of Teaching Hospitals to inform all health workers about the outbreak.
The Service is taking measures to contain the spread of Dengue Fever and urges the public to seek medical attention immediately if they experience symptoms such as fever, headache, and joint pain.
Residents of the Eastern Region are advised to take preventive measures against mosquito bites, such as using insecticide-treated bed nets, wearing protective clothing, and eliminating breeding sites around homes.
The GHS assures the public that it is working tirelessly to manage the outbreak and prevent further spread.
