Ghana Police have reportedly intercepted a KIA bus carrying 1,800 rounds of ammunition in Bolgatanga on its route from Kumasi to Bawku.
The discovery was made yesterday, following a routine checkpoint inspection that revealed boxes of ammunition hidden among other cargo. One man suspected of accompanying the ammunition was arrested at the scene and is currently assisting police with their investigation.
Authorities believe the ammunition may have been intended for use in the Bawku area, which has experienced intermittent conflict in recent years.
The arrest underscores the heightened vigilance of law enforcement to prevent the proliferation of arms in volatile regions. Investigations are ongoing to trace the origins and intended recipients of the ammunition.
This development has raised concerns about security in northern Ghana, prompting calls for increased surveillance on transit routes to deter similar incidents.
