Ghana Records 31 New COVID-19 Cases

Over the past week, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has recorded 31 new cases of COVID-19 within the country.

Dr. Kwame Amponsah-Achiano, the Programs Manager of the Expanded Programme on Immunization at the Ghana Health Service, has clarified that these cases are not severe.

Addressing the media in Accra, Dr. Amponsah-Achiano emphasized the need for a vaccination campaign to mitigate the virus’s spread, slated to commence on Sunday, May 5, 2024.

“We’ve observed a slight increase in cases over the past week, reaching approximately 30 or 31. However, this isn’t unexpected. COVID-19 is here to stay, and as such, we remain committed to vaccination efforts.

From May 5th to 9th, we’ll conduct a national COVID-19 vaccination exercise as part of our strategy to minimize its impact,” Dr. Amponsah-Achiano stated.

The GHS has also launched a nationwide COVID-19 vaccination campaign in response to rising infections across healthcare facilities.

Scheduled from May 4 to May 10, 2024, the drive aims to address surges, particularly in Greater Accra, where the highest numbers have been reported.

Highlighting the virus’s rapid transmission, the Ghana Health Service underscores the importance of strict adherence to safety protocols.

Dr. Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe, Director of Public Health at the Ghana Health Service, stressed the necessity of widespread vaccination to curb transmission during a media briefing.

“We’ve seen a few cases emerging in parts of Accra and other regions, underscoring the urgency for vaccination.

From May 4th to May 10th, we urge all Ghanaians to participate in the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination campaign,” Dr. Asiedu-Bekoe emphasized.
