Ghanaians Erupt Over Ghana's $15M Athlete Feeding and GBC's $105K Payment Controversy

The Ghanaian government’s allocation of $15 million to feed athletes for 18 days during the 2023 African Games has ignited significant public and parliamentary scrutiny.

Kobena Woyome, a ranking member of the Youth, Sports, and Culture Committee, has raised concerns about the expenditure, questioning its justification and urging an investigation.

The controversy extends to the financial management of the event’s media coverage, particularly involving the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), which received only 2% of the $3.6 million allocated for broadcast production.

The GBC Director General’s receipt of $105,000 has further fueled public outcry, with demands for greater transparency and accountability.

Additionally, concerns have been voiced about the exorbitant costs of services such as internet and materials during the games.

The situation has sparked widespread debate online and among political figures, with many calling for GBC to clarify its role and the payments it received in the broadcast deal.
