
<p><strong>Black Stars captain Andre &#8220;Dede&#8221; Ayew has revealed that he waited patiently for his turn to lead the team, serving as deputy to Asamoah Gyan for six years before assuming the captaincy. </strong></p>



<p>Ayew, who was speaking at a guest lecture at the University of Ghana, acknowledged that the captaincy is always a subject of debate in Ghana, but emphasized the importance of preparation and understanding the country&#8217;s mentality.</p>



<p>Ayew stated that he was well-prepared for the media scrutiny that came with the captaincy, having learned from Asamoah Gyan and senior players.</p>



<p> He advised future leaders to be prepared for the scrutiny, saying, &#8220;Anybody who is going to be the leader should be ready for that because you can&#8217;t take it away.&#8221;</p>



<p>Ayew&#8217;s appointment as captain in 2019 ended a reported longstanding battle with Asamoah Gyan over the captaincy. </p>

<p>However, Ayew emphasized that he focused on learning from Gyan and preparing himself for the role, saying, &#8220;I was already Asamoah&#8217;s assistant for about six years…so you just need to prepare yourself and learn from Asamoah.&#8221;</p>



<p>The Black Stars captain encouraged leaders to brush off criticism and focus on their responsibilities, saying, &#8220;You let it brush off like nothing and you move on.&#8221; Ayew&#8217;s comments offer insight into his leadership philosophy and his experiences as captain of the Black Stars.</p>
