As the 2024 general elections draw closer, Ghanaians find themselves inundated with political speeches that, to many, have become exhausting and redundant.
The well-dressed politicians, often delivering long-winded and intricate speeches, seem out of touch with the average citizen, who views the current administration as a “grabbing grabbing” government. Despite this growing public weariness, the political class continues to seek validation and acceptance from the electorate.
The campaign trail is a spectacle, reminiscent of biblical scenes like Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem.
Candidates, both presidential and parliamentary, parade through towns in luxurious vehicles, seeking the crucial thumbprints of the Ghanaian populace. Meanwhile, their supporters, equally determined, leave no stone unturned in their quest to ensure their parties emerge victorious.
Amidst the political frenzy, tensions within the media have escalated. Controversial media personality Kevin Taylor, known for his allegiance to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has issued a scathing warning to fellow journalist Kwabena Asante.
In a viral video circulating on social media, Taylor accused Asante of launching baseless attacks against former President John Mahama.
According to Taylor, Asante’s commentary about Mahama is a deliberate attempt to tarnish the image of the former president.

He further alleged that Asante has “skeletons in his cupboard,” threatening to expose these secrets if the journalist does not desist from mentioning Mahama’s name. “If you continue on this path, I will bring your career to an end,” Taylor declared in the video.
This development adds to the already heated political climate, with media figures playing increasingly prominent roles in shaping public perception.
As campaigns intensify, the battle for the hearts and minds of Ghanaians grows fiercer, both on the streets and in the media landscape.
While Ghanaians brace themselves for what promises to be a decisive election, many are left wondering: will the endless rhetoric and public confrontations result in real solutions to the challenges they face, or will it remain business as usual for the political elite.
