Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has described his main opponent, John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as a “representative of the past,” urging Ghanaians to choose progress over stagnation in the upcoming 2024 elections.
Speaking at a rally in the Northern Region on November 21, Dr. Bawumia contrasted the performance of Mahama’s administration with that of the current NPP government, emphasizing what he called the party’s transformational achievements.
He pointed to what he termed the NDC’s inability to meet basic needs during their tenure, such as frequent chalk shortages in schools, and juxtaposed it with the NPP’s advancements in education, including the distribution of laptops and plans to provide tablets to students.
“During his time, there was no chalk in schools. We are buying tablets for schoolchildren. Every child will get one. No one will be left out.
We are even buying laptops for teachers, from Kindergarten to SHS,” Dr. Bawumia stated, underscoring the NPP’s focus on modernizing education through technology.
Dr. Bawumia argued that the NPP has laid a foundation for sustainable growth and innovation, particularly in the areas of education and technology, positioning itself as the party to lead Ghana into a prosperous future.
He framed the 2024 election as a critical choice between progress and a return to the challenges of the past.
“This election is about who can deliver the transformation Ghana needs, and I am confident that I am the better choice for the future of our country,” he declared, urging voters to back the NPP’s vision for a technologically advanced and forward-thinking Ghana.
With less than a year to the polls, Dr. Bawumia’s remarks set the stage for what promises to be a heated contest between the NPP and NDC, as both parties vie for the mandate to steer Ghana’s future direction.
