During a recent campaign rally in Sunyani, Bono East Region, Abronye DC, a prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), leveled serious accusations against former President John Dramani Mahama.
Speaking to party supporters alongside Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Abronye DC claimed that Mahama sold the Tema Harbour during his time in office, allegedly causing significant setbacks to Ghana’s import sector.
“Recently, John Mahama came to Sunyani, urging you not to support the NPP again because of the hardships in the country,” Abronye DC said. “Let me tell you, items we import from countries like China, Canada, France, the United States, the UK, and Australia all pass through the Ghana Ports and Harbour Authority. But Mahama sold the Tema Harbour, which is why it’s now challenging to bring goods into Ghana. Selling the harbour is like selling our future.”

Abronye DC also claimed that efforts to regain control of the harbour were thwarted by a demand for $21 billion.
It is important to clarify that there is no evidence to support these allegations, and the Tema Harbour continues to operate under the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA). In recent years, the harbour has seen significant investments, including a $115 million expansion to boost its cargo-handling capacity.
The remarks have generated controversy, prompting questions about the accuracy of Abronye DC’s statements.
