Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the flagbearer candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Member of Parliament for Assin Central, has made it clear that nothing will force him to withdraw from the race.
The divisive politician was overheard telling some NPP members that it would not be appropriate for him to resign and that he had no intention of doing so.
According to Kennedy Agyapong, the way the flagbearer nomination processes are conducted will determine how united the NPP will be heading into the general elections of 2024.
“I’m not going to stand down for anyone; if we have to work together, then we work together. When you win, you win. However, our ability to unite will rely on how we handle the election on November 4 because of the way they treated us all on August 26.
Kennedy and three other candidates—Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and Addai-Nimoh—will compete for the position of flagbearer.
The NPP has set November 4, 2023, as the date to choose a new party leader to succeed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign staff earlier denied rumors that he will withdraw from the race.
