After over two decades of representing Adansi Asokwa in Parliament, KT Hammond has expressed his disappointment following his defeat in the 2024 parliamentary elections.
Hammond, who ran on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), lost to National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate Animli Dorgbadzi Dorani, who secured 14,229 votes to Hammond’s 13,229.
Speaking to Joy News, Hammond reflected on the irony of his loss, recalling constituents who assured him they would “thank him with their vote” during his campaign.
“I now think what they said was an irony,” he remarked, expressing surprise at the outcome despite his extensive contributions to the constituency’s development.
Hammond, who has served as MP since 2001, is recognized for his work in improving infrastructure and education in the area.
However, his defeat signals a significant shift in voter sentiment, with residents seemingly embracing Dorani’s promise of change.
Acknowledging the loss, Hammond noted, “Politics is full of surprises, and it’s clear that the people wanted a change.” The result underscores a shifting political landscape in Adansi Asokwa, marking a new chapter in the constituency’s representation.
