Letitia Ann James is an American lawyer and politician. She is a member of the Democratic Party and the current Attorney General of New York, having won the 2018 election to succeed appointed AG Barbara Underwood.

Letitia James was elected as the Attorney General of New York in 2018. She is the first woman of color to hold this position in New York State’s history. As Attorney General, she has been involved in various legal matters, including investigations into financial misconduct and environmental issues.
Prior to serving as Attorney General, James was the Public Advocate of New York City, a position she held from 2014 to 2018. In this role, she served as a watchdog over city agencies and an advocate for New Yorkers.
