Mahama Begins Presidency Amidst Calls for Peace

John Dramani Mahama has officially commenced preparations to assume the presidency following his resounding victory in Ghana’s 2024 elections.

Outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo warmly received him at the Jubilee House, where they discussed pressing issues, including security and the economy. The Joint Transition Team was inaugurated soon after, signaling a seamless transfer of power.

Despite this progress, reports of post-election violence involving supporters of Mahama have raised concerns nationwide.

Political and religious leaders, along with civil society organizations, have called for calm and urged the president-elect to address these tensions promptly.

Mahama, in his initial remarks, emphasized his commitment to fostering unity and peace during his tenure.

His ability to resolve these challenges will be closely watched as he seeks to unite the nation and build a foundation for economic recovery.
