Mahama Nominates Alban Bagbin As Speaker For Ghana’s 9th Parliament

In a move aimed at strengthening Parliament and ensuring efficient governance, President-elect John Dramani Mahama has officially nominated Alban Bagbin as the Speaker for Ghana’s 9th Parliament.

The announcement, made on January 5, 2025, followed consultations and mutual agreement between the National Executive and Parliamentary Leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Bagbin, a seasoned politician with extensive experience, previously served as the Speaker of the 8th Parliament.

His impressive parliamentary career spans roles such as Minority and Majority Leader, and he has represented Nadowli as a Member of Parliament.

His deep expertise in parliamentary affairs and commitment to national service made him the ideal candidate for the position.

President-elect Mahama expressed full confidence in Bagbin’s ability to foster unity and ensure effective oversight of Parliament. “His leadership will be vital during this important time,” Mahama stated through his Transition Team’s Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
