In a recent visit to his farms in Yapei and Busunu, Savannah Region, President-elect John Mahama shared his deep passion for agriculture and his vision for life after politics.
“Farming is my life. I love it, and I’m sure if I didn’t go into politics, I would have been a full-time farmer,” Mahama stated.
Mahama’s agricultural journey has grown significantly over the years. He started with 300 goats and small ruminants and now boasts nearly 500 animals, with an additional 200 recently added.
His farm also produces maize and soybeans, supplied directly to farms in Asutuare for poultry feed. Mahama plans to expand into sheep and cattle farming, optimistic about the future.
Despite his demanding political career, Mahama has continued to nurture his love for the land. For him, farming is more than just a business; it’s a therapeutic and fulfilling way of life. “This is not just a business; it’s a way of life for me. It’s therapeutic and fulfilling to work on the farm,” he said.
Mahama’s commitment to agriculture underscores his desire to contribute to Ghana’s food security and support local farmers. His plans to return to farming full-time after his political career reflect his enduring passion for the agricultural sector.
