
<p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>In a surprise move, <a href="https://occupygh.com/extend-presidential-term-five-years-john-mahama">President John Mahama</a> has revoked the appointments of Chief Executives of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies, effective immediately.</strong></p>



<p> This decision was made in accordance with the powers vested in the President under the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936) and the Local Governance (Amendment) Act, 2017 (Act 940).</p>



<p>The revocation of appointments affects two main groups:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><em>Chief Executives of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies</em>: Their appointments have been revoked, and they are expected to hand over their duties to their respective Coordinating Directors.</li>



<li><em>Assembly Members</em>: Those appointed pursuant to the relevant sections of the Act have also had their appointments revoked.</li>
</ul>



<p>In the interim, the Coordinating Directors of the various Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAS) will assume responsibility as acting Chief Executives until substantive appointments are made.</p>



<p>This move is not unprecedented, as former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo also made changes to the leadership of various municipal and district assemblies in 2024.</p>



<p>However, the scope and timing of President Mahama&#8217;s decision have raised eyebrows, sparking speculation about the motivations behind the revocations.</p>
