Mahama Slammed For Doubting EC

Pius Enam Hadzide, Deputy Minister for Information, has slammed former President John Mahama for doubting the current Electoral Commissioner of Ghana.

According to Enam, Mahama doesn’t not speak like a statesman just because he is the party falgbearer.

Enam elaborate that the former president should know the difference between being a statesman and that of the party flagbearer.

The comment follows Mr Mahama’s recent outburst on Citi FM that he doesn’t have confidence in the neutrality of the Electoral Commission (EC).

“At what point should we take his comment not as a comment of a flagbearer who is not interested in the political issues of his country for political personal benefits?” he asked on Peace FM, monitored by Adomonline.

Mr Hadzide further stated that the former president in his State of the Nation Address entreated Ghanaians to support the decisions of the EC and wondered why the U-turn about the EC.

“In his State of the Nation Address he stated that it is necessary for us to support the EC in their decision making because we are well known worldwide for our peaceful election so why then is he scared of the neutrality of the EC?

“So what happened between 2016 and 2019, why the sudden change in his decision? I feel that the only thing that really changed is that he is no longer the president,” he added.

He added that the conduct of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) shows the party is deliberately plotting to interrupt the work of the EC.

“I am not really surprised at his submissions because a day before the heads of the commission were being appointed he declared he doesn’t have confidence in them before they even started work which was very judgmental.”

The NDC flagbearer said the EC is yet to prove that it is a transparent body.

Speaking to Accra-based Citi FM, Mr Mahama said the posture of the EC has not been convincing ahead of the 2020 polls.

“They need to prove us wrong. We have our doubts that they can be neutral and fair. The current posture and the way they are conducting things make us doubt that they will be neutral and fair in 2020,” he stated.
