Malawi: Referee and Assistants Flee as Military-Owned Team's Fans Chase Them After Loss

Chaos erupted at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre, Malawi, when the referee and two assistant referees were forced to flee after MMF Marines FC lost 4-1 to Ekhaya FC.

In a video that has gone viral online, the match officials can be seen running for their safety as furious players and fans of the military-owned MMF Marines FC chased them across the pitch.

The incident sparked outrage on social media, with many expressing disappointment over the violent reaction.

One user, @_sevenn6, commented, “African Football is a big disgrace smh...,” while others, like @KuukuDawson, questioned the culture of resolving disputes through violence.

Despite the dramatic nature of the event, there have been no confirmed reports of injuries, but the video has further fueled concerns about football fan behavior and security at matches.

This incident adds to the growing list of fan-related violence in African football, highlighting the need for stricter regulations to ensure the safety of officials during and after matches.

The Malawi Football Association has yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
