MTN Renders Apology Over Network Challenges

MTN Ghana has apologized to its numerous customers for the recent disruption in data connectivity across the country.

It said the challenges go beyond Ghana to “many areas in West Africa”.

“This is as a result of a double undersea fiber optic cable cut in Europe,” it explained in a statement issued on Friday, January 17.

Most customers began experiencing connectivity issues from Thursday.

The situation is affecting all operators and customers in the West Africa region due to the cut on the West Africa Cable System (WACS).

The West Africa Cable system is an ultra-high capacity fiber optic submarine cable that links Europe, West Africa and South Africa connecting 14 countries over two continents.

“We are working with our international providers to restore connectivity as quickly as possible,” the leading telecommunication network in Ghana assured.

It also said work has already begun to restore connectivity through other channels “and will continue to use alternative routes of connectivity and additional capacity to ease the congestion until the situation is resolved”.

The telco says it will not rest until “we have restored all services for our customers”.

“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and we will continue to provide updates and keep customers informed when the issue is fully resolved.”
