A viral video circulating online captures a disgruntled MTN user confronting the telecom giant over receiving a campaign message from Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s presidential camp.
The agitated customer, in a call to MTN’s customer service, expressed anger about the unsolicited political message, questioning the company’s involvement in partisan activities.
The user pointed out that he had initially purchased his MTN SIM card for just GHS 1.50 in 2016 but lamented the sharp increase in cost to GHS 100 in recent years.
Linking his frustration to the rising prices, he exclaimed that “God will punish” MTN for sending such messages to its users.
This incident has sparked debates on social media, with some users criticizing MTN for allowing political messages to reach their personal devices without consent.
Others, however, argue that the issue reflects a broader trend of businesses being co-opted into political campaigns.
The user’s outburst underscores the economic frustrations many citizens feel amidst rising costs of living.
