A bizarre incident has occurred in Kuchibuyi Village, Kubwa, where a native doctor, Ismail Usman, allegedly shot himself while testing a self-made “bulletproof” charm.
The incident, which took place on Friday, November 23, 2024, has sparked widespread attention and raised concerns about the dangers of experimenting with firearms and charms.
According to reports, Usman used a shotgun to test the charm, but unfortunately, the protective powers of the charm failed, leaving him with severe injuries.
He was rushed to the Kubwa General Hospital for emergency treatment before being transferred to the Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital for more advanced care.
FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed that Usman would face charges, including unlawful possession of firearms and attempted suicide, as outlined under Section 231 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria.
A subsequent search of Usman’s home uncovered the homemade gun used in the incident along with various charms associated with the failed experiment.
SP Adeh warned the public against engaging in unsafe and illegal practices, highlighting the dangers of experimenting with firearms and charms.
This incident is not an isolated case, as there have been previous reports of native doctors testing their charms with disastrous consequences.
In a similar incident in Edo State, a 19-year-old native doctor, Timothy Dauda, was detained by the police for allegedly shooting his client to death during an “anti-bullet” charm trial.
SP Adeh emphasized that “the charm, unfortunately, failed to protect him, resulting in life-threatening injuries. Investigations are ongoing, and Usman is expected to face legal consequences for his reckless actions.”
