NDC Alleges Election Rigging Plot by NPP and Brigadier General Opoku Ahead of 2024 Elections

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) of orchestrating a plan to rig Ghana’s 2024 elections, specifically implicating Brigadier General Michael Opoku.

At a press conference on November 19, 2024, NDC’s Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, alleged that Opoku has been tasked by President Akufo-Addo to manipulate votes in the Ashanti Region through ballot stuffing and box-swapping.

The NDC also claimed that Opoku’s home in Kumasi is a storage site for rigging materials, including weapons and illegal ballot papers, and accused him of training NPP thugs at a military camp to incite violence during the elections.

The NPP dismissed these accusations, with party officials like Richard Ahiagbah and Dennis Miracles Aboagye calling them baseless distractions.

These allegations have sparked heated public discourse, with critics demanding evidence and others insisting on an independent investigation.

The NDC has vowed to petition both the Inspector General of Police and the Chief of Defence Staff for action.

As political tensions escalate ahead of the elections, these claims highlight the high stakes and contentious nature of Ghana’s electoral process.

Calls for transparency and vigilance have grown louder as citizens hope to safeguard the country’s democratic integrity.
