NDC Regional Chairman Reveals Date Mahama Will Appoint New MMDCEs After Sacking The Existing Ones

NDC Regional ChairmanThe Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore, has announced that new Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) will be appointed within the next two weeks.

This move comes after President John Dramani Mahama revoked the appointments of all current MMDCEs on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, as part of efforts to restructure local governance.

According to Ashie Moore, the President is set to replace all revoked MMDCEs with new appointments. The NDC Regional Chairman assured party supporters that the process is being handled with diligence to ensure competent individuals are selected to lead the assemblies effectively.

Ashie Moore revealed that the party is currently screening prospective candidates for the positions. “Per our party’s machinery, this week we are also doing a screening of the nomination of the prospective candidates for those positions,” he stated. He called for patience among party supporters, promising that new MMDCEs will be in place within the next 14 days.

The revocation of MMDCE appointments was made in accordance with the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936) as amended by the Local Governance (Amendment) Act, 2017 (Act 940).

The directive requires Coordinating Directors of the respective Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to step in as acting chief executives until new appointments are made.
