In a unique and satirical display, supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Agotime, Volta Region, organized a symbolic funeral ceremony to mark the defeat of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the December 7 general elections.
The event, which featured traditional funeral rites, saw mourners dressed in black and red outfits, symbolizing the funeral and burial of the NPP.
The ceremony was a mix of satire and tradition, with NDC supporters gathering to observe rituals that signified the end of the NPP’s tenure.
Mock coffins and inscriptions highlighting grievances against the NPP’s administration were on display, giving insight into the sentiments of many in the region.

The air was filled with chants, dirges, and traditional drumming as participants expressed their elation over what they perceived as the electorate’s rejection of the NPP.
This celebration comes as no surprise, given the Volta Region’s reputation as a stronghold of the NDC.
However, it’s worth noting that voter turnout in the region has become a concern for the NDC, with General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia previously cautioning against complacency among supporters.
