The President of the nation, Nana Akuffo Addo, alongside the Ashantihene Otumfour Osei Tutu II, commissioned the Nana Agyemang Prempeh I International Airport on Friday.
However, reports indicate that the newly inaugurated airport was promptly closed down after the ceremony due to incomplete construction work.
Passengers traveling to and from Kumasi were expecting to utilize the newly commissioned airport, only to be informed that they would need to revert to using the old facility.

Radio and Television personality Nana Yaa Brefo, who experienced the situation firsthand, confirmed that despite the commissioning, the new airport’s construction had not been finalized, prompting a swift closure post-event.
According to her findings, ongoing construction at the Nana Agyemang Prempeh International Airport is slated for completion in September, with operations set to commence fully at that time.
She remarked, “Despite its commissioning yesterday, we couldn’t use it. So, we are still using the old airport.”
Despite the setback, plans are in place for the airport’s eventual opening, with expectations for full functionality by September.
