President John Mahama, who was sworn in as the sixth president of the Fourth Republic on January 7, 2025, has identified four key areas to focus on in order to achieve his reset Ghana agenda.
Topmost on the agenda is economic recovery, with the president vowing to restore economic stability and stimulate growth.
The four key areas of focus are:
- Economic Restoration and Stabilisation: President Mahama aims to revitalize the economy by implementing a 24-hour economy strategy, maximizing productivity and efficiency, and transforming Ghana into an import substitution and export-led economy.
- Improvement of the Business and Investment Environment: The president has assured businesses and investors that Ghana is open for business again, promising a more transparent and fair tax regime to stimulate growth. He declared, “We will rationalise our tax systems to make them fair and transparent. The business community must know that Ghana is open for business again.”
- Governance and Constitutional Reforms: President Mahama plans to establish a Governance Advisory Council to help improve political governance, curb corruption, and ensure respect for human rights.
- Accountability and the Fight Against Corruption: The president has vowed to wage a strong fight against corruption, ensuring that anti-corruption state institutions have the freedom to operate without interference. He also plans to set up an Independent Value for Money office to scrutinize government procurements above a certain threshold.
President Mahama has also promised the Ghanaian youth that his administration will create decent and well-paying jobs, emphasizing the need for a more transparent and fair tax regime to stimulate growth.
