No Ghanaian Student Should Expect WASSCE Results This Year — WAEC

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that the release of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results will be delayed due to financial constraints

According to John Kapi, the Head of Public Relations at WAEC, the examination body has not received the necessary funds from the government to complete the processing of the results

The government owes WAEC approximately GH₵118 million, which has hindered the council’s ability to release the results. Furthermore, WAEC requires an additional GH₵25 million to repair malfunctioning scanners essential for processing objective test results.

With less than two weeks left in 2024, WAEC has stated that there is no specific date for the release of the results.

The office is scheduled to break for Christmas on December 20, 2024, and staff will need to be called back to work once the necessary funds are released.

The delay in releasing the results has caused concern among students, parents, and educational institutions.

The Minority in Parliament has called for the Finance and Education Ministers to be summoned to address the government’s indebtedness to WAEC and resolve the impasse.

WAEC has appealed to the Ministry of Education for additional funding to repair the scanners and complete the marking process.

The council has assured stakeholders that the results will be released as soon as the technical and financial challenges are resolved.
