A Kumasi-based trader and staunch New Patriotic Party (NPP) member has launched a scathing attack on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, accusing him of contributing to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s loss in the 2024 general elections.
According to the trader, the NPP’s over-reliance on the Free SHS policy as its sole campaign message fell flat with voters.
She expressed disappointment that despite the NPP’s eight years in power, the party failed to deliver on its promises to the people of Kumasi.
“We Kumasi people loved the NPP so much that we voted for you to stay in power for eight years,” she said. “Unfortunately, the eight years you spent in power, you didn’t do anything for us. You didn’t construct roads, fix our markets, or do anything substantial.”
The trader also criticized the Free SHS policy, stating that it was not a game-changer for many families in Kumasi. “Some of us could pay the fees of our wards, so we didn’t need it,” she said. “You should have done other projects for us to vote for you this year.”
Furthermore, the trader revealed that many people in Kumasi refused to vote due to the NPP’s perceived neglect of the region during its tenure.
Her comments have sparked a heated debate about the NPP’s performance in the 2024 elections and the party’s future prospects.
In the lead-up to the elections, President Akufo-Addo had urged Ghanaians to support Dr. Bawumia’s bid for the presidency, highlighting his extensive experience and clear vision for advancing the country’s development.
However, it appears that this message did not resonate with voters in Kumasi.
