On October 9, 2023, the Ghana Police Service apprehended two suspects, Alhaji Wahab Suleiman, and Ibrahim Abubakari, for their involvement in an attempted robbery and a fatal attack on police officers in Ejura, Ashanti Region.
The suspects, along with an accomplice currently evading capture, allegedly opened fire on police officers who were conducting an operation to thwart a planned robbery targeting a mobile money vendor in Ejura.
During the exchange of gunfire between the suspects and the police, two officers sustained gunshot wounds and were immediately rushed to the hospital for medical attention. Tragically, General Sergeant Ahmed Kamal succumbed to his injuries.
The two robbery suspects, also injured in the shootout, are currently receiving medical care under police protection. Efforts are underway to locate and apprehend their third accomplice for due legal proceedings.
Exhibits recovered from the scene include two SB shotguns, one pump-action gun, six live BB cartridges, and one used BB cartridge.
