<p>E T Mensah, a politician from Ghana and a former representative for Ningo Prampram in the Greater Accra Region, has away at the age of 77.</p>



<p>After a protracted illness, E T Mensah passed away in South Africa on the evening of Sunday, October 1, 2023.</p>



<p>Age-wise, he was 77.</p>



<p>E T Mensah, a senior politician and a five-term Ningo Prampram member of parliament, was essential to the development of Ghana into the country it is today.</p>

<p>Politician Enoch Teye Mensah, sometimes known as E T Mensah, was born in Ghana on May 17, 1946.</p>



<p>From January 1997 to January 2017, he served as Ghana&#8217;s Minister of Education and a Parliamentary Delegate.</p>



<p>Mensah was born in Ghana&#8217;s Greater Accra Region on May 17, 1946, in Prampram.</p>



<p>His early education was received at the SNAPS College of Accountancy, where he eventually graduated in 1968.</p>



<p>In addition, he received his RSA III in 1970, and in 1986, he was elected a fellow of the Institute of Financial Accountants.</p>



<p>E T Mensah was an accounting officer who served as the accounting officer at the University of Ghana, Legon.</p>



<p>He served as the long-time Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), which is equivalent to being the Mayor of the City of Accra, under the PNDC military administration in Ghana.</p>



<p>E.T. Mensah joined the National Democratic Congress after its founding in 1992.</p>



<p>He later ran for Ningo Prampram in the 1996 elections for the Ghanaian parliament on the NDC platform, winning the race and his first term.</p>



<p>He would ultimately occupy the position for exactly two decades, winning five times in a row.</p>



<p>Sam George defeated Mensah in the NDC primary on November 21, 2015, ending his two-decade reign.</p>



<p>Prior to the 2008 parliamentary elections in Ghana, he previously held the position of Minority Chief Whip in the House.</p>



<p>He was appointed majority chief whip in the legislature in January 2009.</p>



<p>E T Mensah, a politician who is married and has seven children, was given the Companion of the Order of the Volta by former president John Agyekum Kufuor.</p>
