Rev. Obofuor, founder and leader of Anointed Palace Chapel (APC), has shared his thoughts on the reasons behind the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the 2024 general elections.
Speaking to his congregation, Rev. Obofuor highlighted a combination of factors, with pride and arrogance among politicians standing out as the main cause.
According to Rev. Obofuor, Ghanaians have grown tired of the arrogance displayed by some NPP members, particularly towards the youth. “Pride and arrogance are part of the reason why they didn’t win. Ghanaians have been able to bring down the proud men in politics,” he remarked.
Rev. Obofuor also pointed to the NPP’s mishandling of key issues, such as the Free Senior High School program. Despite the initiative being praised, the poor quality of food provided under the program became a source of frustration for many.
Additionally, he addressed the persistent power outages, popularly known as “dumsor,” which the NPP had criticized the previous government for but failed to fix during their time in power.
The cleric further noted that many citizens had been suffering silently for years but are now more outspoken about their challenges and dissatisfaction.
“The people were suffering but couldn’t voice it out. Why is it that all of a sudden everyone is happy to talk?” he asked, suggesting that this change in attitude reflects the growing frustration with the government.
