The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has announced a directive to recall Diplomatic and Service Passports issued during the previous administration.
This move is aimed at ensuring compliance with current eligibility criteria for official passports and preventing potential misuse.
The recall affects several groups, including:
- Former Government Officials: Former Ministers and their spouses, Former Members of Parliament, Retired Justices of the Superior and Lower Courts, and Former Regional Ministers
- Public Institution CEOs: Chief Executive Officers of State Institutions, Chairs, and Members of Boards
- Special Project Officials: Officials of the National Cathedral Project
- Diplomatic Representatives: Former Political Ambassadors and their dependants

- Influential Personalities: Businesspeople, religious leaders, and traditional leaders
- Other Former Government Officials: Those no longer serving in official roles
According to the Ministry, the recall applies to all individuals holding Diplomatic and Service Passports who no longer meet the eligibility requirements set out in the Passports and Travel Certificates Act, 1967 (NLCD 155). The exercise is part of an effort to protect the integrity of Ghana’s official travel documents.
Affected individuals are required to return their passports to the Legal and Treaties Bureau by Friday, January 24, 2025, for a comprehensive review and potential reissuance. This will ensure that they comply with current standards for holding such documents.
